December 2 - 5, 2010 - River Town Christmas - Celebrating this annual event, River Town Christmas will take place in and around Columbia, NC. The weekend will be filled with tree lightings, baking contests, one-of-a-kind shopping with Downtown Merchants, a Bazaar in Columbia Theater and the Turkish Bazaar at Pocosin Arts. Plan your weekend with an old-fashioned holiday event. enjoy a horse-drawn Carriage Rides Downtown Columbia on Friday and Saturday nights! And don't forget, Santa will be arriving on Friday evening at the lighted boat parade and visiting in town on Saturday at the parade and for personal visits after the parade at the Columbia Theater! December 3 - 4, 2010 - Manteo Christmas Parade & Tree Lighting - Tree Lighting will be December 3rd at 6 p.m. with Santa visiting with the children afterwards at the Maritime Museum at the Creef Davis Boathouse. December 3, 2010 - Edenton Tree Lighting Ceremony - Downtown Edenton Tree Lighting Ceremony. Kick off the joyous holiday season with a wonderful annual event in Historic Downtown Edenton. Special visit from Santa, caroling with the Albemarle Sounds, children's train rides, goodies and of course the lighting of the Town Tree. Come join us for the festivities and visit our local merchants for all your gift giving and holiday needs. The tree lighting will start at 6pm on South Broad Street at the Monument. December 11, 2010 - Whalehead Club Annual Tree Lighting - 9 am to 5 pm. Gather on the north lawn to enjoy complimentary hot chocolate and sing carols while the giant cedar tree in Currituck Heritage Park and the Currituck Beach Lighthouse are simultaneously illuminated. December 11, 2010 - Holiday Howl - Red Wolf Howling Safari - 4:00 PM. Join Alligator River National Wildlife Refuge staff on a Howling Safari for an unforgettable evening! Learn about endangered red wolves, found only in the wilds of northeastern North Carolina, and get the chance of a lifetime to hear their harmonious howls. Meet at Creef Cut Wildlife Trail at the intersection of Milltail Road and Highway 64 (approximately 15 minutes from Manteo). REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED! The non-refundable program fee is $5.00 per person. Children under 5 years old are free. Program capacity is 100 people. Register early to save your spot. Non-registered participants may be turned away due to the program capacity limit. Programs typically last two hours. Howling will be cancelled due to lightning, heavy wind or rain. The decision to cancel will be made no later than 1 ½ hours before the howling start time. A message will be left on the Coalition’s answering service announcing the cancellation.
